The Aggregation of Marginal Gains.

HUH?
This is a statistician’s way of saying small stuff accumulates into big stuff.  How saving your spare change every day grows into a vacation fund. How being one degree off a charted course will every day put you further from your intended destination.

It’s also how bad habits are formed. The aggregation of marginal declines. One poor decision, done daily, becomes a mindless habit with a side of 15 lbs and high blood pressure.

GOOD NEWS! It’s also how one good decision, done daily, can shed those pounds and get you off that medication. (Honestly, we’ve seen this happen so many times.)

Improving by just 1% might not be noticeable today, but it will be meaningful in the long run. Think about it: if you improved something by 1% everyday or even most days – where could you be in a week? A month? A year? And as a side, where else would that positive action and growing confidence spill over into your life? Possibilities abound.

So for those of you who have even momentarily entertained the idea of “I can’t keep up with this (insert new healthy habit here) thing”:  hush.  Get back in the game.  Step off the all or nothing crazy train and stay engaged with your process.  It is so easy to underestimate the power of marginal gains, the little things done daily, like drinking lots of water or stretching for a few minutes or expressing gratitude for something or acknowledging someone.

Success is a few simple things, practiced every day. Shrink it down to your size, and then start practicing.  Master your habits, and the achievements show up.
